CIC declares assets online

Mishra agreed it should have come earlier

Five years after the RTI Act came into force, all the the information commissioners led by Chief Information Commissioner Satyananda Mishra on Wednesday went public with details of their assets by putting it up on the website of the Central Information Commission.

Mishra agreed it should have come earlier. It is always better late than never. Actually the issue was never raised seriously among the Commission, now after it was discussed,we thought since theres nothing to hide, why not put it up for public to see8230;, he told The Indian Express.

This would now be be done on an yearly basis.

Judges of the Supreme Court and several high courts have already declared their assets online. Assets of the Union Council of Ministers are available on the PMO website.

But making it different from those disclosures, most of the information commissioners have only put out details of immovable properties. To this,Mishra said,The people in the commission have been drawn from various backgrounds,so the details about immovable property is based on the IAS conduct rules of the government, which prescribes IAS officers to disclose only those details.
