CBI begins probe into killing of DSP in UP

A CBI team arrived from Delhi Friday and began investigating the murder of DSP Zia-ul-Haque and two others in Pratapgarh district. The agency conducted an inspection of the spots where Kunda circle officer Haque,village pradhan Nanhe Lal Yadav and his brother Suresh were shot dead in Balipur village on March 2.

The CBI team,led by DIG Anurag Garg,included four officials from the Central Forensic Science Lab.

The team began by questioning suspended SHO of Hathigawan Manoj Shukla,suspended SHO of Kunda Sarvesh Mishra,senior SI,Kunda police station,Vinay Kumar,as well as eight other policemen,including Haques shooter Mohammad Imran.

The questioning began Friday at the PWD guest house in Pratapgarh,sources said.

Soon after their arrival on Friday morning,the CBI team summoned Shukla. Shukla accompanied the CBI team to the murder spot of the pradhan,who was shot about one-and-half kilometres from his house in Balipur. Later,the team visited the spot were Haque and the pradhans brother Suresh were mudered. Haques body was lying near a well close to pradhans house while Sureshs body was further away,a CBI official said.

The CBI officials later went to the houses of the slain pradhan and Kamta Prasad Pal,who is accused of killing the pradhan. The team took a round of the entire village before leaving for Kunda where they visited the nagar panchayat building. They later collected documents relating to the murders from Hathigawan police station.

Wife,brother get job in police force

The state government on Friday appointed slain Kunda CO Zia-ul-Haques wife Parveen Azad as officer on special duty (welfare) in the UP Police,while his brother Sohrab was appointed constable. Secretary (Home) Kamal Saksena said the post of OSP (welfare) which has been specially created,was equivalent to deputy SP and carried the same pay-scale of Rs 15,600-39,100. Saksena said Parveen will be posted in Gorakhpur. The nature of her job will be decided later. Sohrab has been appointed as a constable in police welfare.
