WASHINGTON: Vice-President Joe Biden has said Pakistan has been an “unreliable ally” of the US in the war against terror. Biden,who spoke to CNN,said Pakistan has failed “on occasion” when forced to choose between the US and al-Qaeda. The price of Pakistan’s choices has been the “loss of life of US soldiers in Afghanistan,” he was quoted as saying on the CNN website. “They have to get better… it’s in their interest that they be more cooperative with us. We are demanding it,” he said.

NEW YORK: US Air Force fighters were scrambled and escorted two civilian flights one to New York and other bound for Detroit after passengers spent “an extra-ordinary time in the bathroom”,mirroring the heightened precautions in force following a terror alert late Sunday. Two F-16 fighters escorted the flights until they landed safely at New York’s Kennedy Airport and Detroit’s Metropolitan Airport after the crew of the two flights sounded an alarm,reporting suspicious activity on board,CNN reported.

MOSCOW: The sole member of the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv ice hockey team to survive last week’s air crash in western Russia died of his injuries on Monday,the medical centre that treated him said. Alexander Galimov was found alive after the Yak-42 jet crash last Wednesday killed 43 people. However,he received burns to 80 per cent of his body and succumbed to his injuries Monday.
