Car bombs in central Baghdad kill 9
BAGHDAD: Suicide bombers detonated two explosives-packed cars on Monday outside Baghdads heavily fortified Green Zone,killing at least nine people and wounding 23,officials said. The cars blew up just outside a security checkpoint on a heavily travelled road leading into the Green Zone from Baghdads international airport.
Hungary passes new constitution
BUDAPEST: Hungarian lawmakers approved a conservative constitution Monday that was blasted by rights groups and Opposition for measures including a ban on gay marriage and protection of the life of a foetus. Conservative Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the constitution will allow the former communist country to complete a transition to democracy.
Three Cups of Tea inaccurate: CBS
The best-selling book Three Cups of Tea,which follows author Greg Mortensons mission to build schools across Central Asia,is filled with inaccuracies,a CBS 60 Minutes report alleged. It said his charitable foundation took credit for building schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan which do not exist. Mortenson denies the allegations.
US storms wreck havoc,toll at 45
ASKEWVILLE: A tornado-spewing storm system that killed at least 45 people across half the country unleashed its worst fury on North Carolina,where residents in the capital city and rural hamlets alike on Sunday mourned the dead. Observers reported more than 240 tornadoes swept through 6 states.
