Court refuses to order FIR against Bhandarkar

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday refused to order lodging of an FIR against filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and two others for allegedly stealing the plot and idea for his movie Fashion from a book without giving credit to the author. The court dismissed the plea stating that there cannot be copyright in an idea or a plot. The court,however,allowed author Seema Seth to present more evidence before the court to substantiate the claim.

UAE Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs has given its in-principle approval to the United Arab Emirates for opening its consulate in Thiruvananthapuram,a senior MEA official said here on Wednesday. A R Ghanshyam,joint secretary (in charge of Gulf region),said that necessary clearances are being taken from the Kerala government and other agencies. The consulate,once it is established,will cater to four southern states in India Kerala,Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Five pilgrims die on Amarnath route

SRINAGAR: On the third day of the Amarnath Yatra,five pilgrims,including two women,died at various areas en route the holy shrine taking the death toll to six,the police said on Wednesday. Meanwhile,seven pilgrims were injured on Wednesday evening in Anantnag when a vehicle carrying the yatris was involved in a collision with another vehicle which was reportedly overspeeding. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

Geetha Johri quizzed by CBI at her office

THE CBI on Wednesday questioned additional DGP Geetha Johri at her office in Gandhinagar in connection with the encounter killings of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his aide Tulsiram Prajapati.

Johri,who now heads Gujarat Police Housing Corporation,had earlier probed the Sohrabuddin case as an Inspector General (CID) in 2006 and submitted nine action taken reports in the Supreme Court.

The IPS officer had failed to reach the CBI office for questioning for the past two days.

CBI sources said a team from the agency reached Johris house at Tulsi Row House at Jodhpur Crossroads on Wednesday afternoon but the additional DGP insisted she should would talk only in her office in Gandhinagar. Accordingly,the interview was conducted at Johris office in the evening.

I have given my statements to the CBI. I am still on leave but I came down specially for this, Johri said.
