PMO discloses expenses on publications
NEW DELHI: The Prime Ministers Office (PMO) spent around Rs 12 lakh during 2009-2010 on newspapers and periodicals that it subscribes to for its officials. The disclosure was made in reply to an application made under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by activist Afroz Alam Sahil,asking the number of newspapers and periodicals the PMO subscribed to and the amount it had spent on them in the last five years.
HC defers Khairlanji verdict by a month
NAGPUR: The much awaited verdict on the 2006 Khairlanji Dalit massacre case was on Tuesday deferred by a month by the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court as one of Judges was preoccupied with an assignment. Justice A P Lavande told lawyers in his chamber that the judgment would be pronounced on July 14 as Justice R C Chavan,who also heard the matter,was on an assignment at Mumbai bench.
Power cuts anger football-loving Nagas
Kohima: Authorities in Kohima have made a desperate appeal to the soccer-loving Nagas to restrict their consumption of electricity,the demand for which has outstripped the supply. Power consumption has zoomed but the availability has remained stagnant,additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Kohima Alun Hangsing said. The official said engineers and technical staff of the electricity department were being abused over phone,particularly at Dimapur and Kohima,when electricity went off during the matches.
