Angry militant shoots Hizbul commander

JAMMU: In an indication of the growing frustration within militant ranks against commanders over the issue of weapons and money,a Hizbul Mujahideen militant on Sunday night killed a top-ranking commander of his own outfit and later surrendered before the police in Doda district. Dodas Additional Superintendent of Police Arif Rishu said Abdul Latief had some altercation with his commander Chota Shakeel near village Lalore,which later led to a scuffle. During the scuffle,Latief shot Shakeel. Shakeels killing could deal a major blow to the Hizbul Mujahideen as he is believed to have started a fresh recruitment drive in the area.

Rathore bail hearing put off for today

Chandigarh: The CBI on Monday strongly opposed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court the bail plea of former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore,sentenced to an 18-month jail term in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case,and submitted that he must undergo some part of marginal sentence awarded to him. Rathore must spend some part of marginal sentence in jail like one-third of total punishment given to him, CBI counsel Anmol Rattan Sidhu told the court. The single vacation judge,Justice Ajay Tewari after hearing the arguments for about an hour in the jam-packed court room on the revision and bail petitions of Rathore deferred the hearing till tomorrow.

Probe charges against Bachchan: Court

Barabanki: A local court on Monday asked the police to probe into a charge levelled by a village head against Amitabh Bachchan and five others over delay in setting up a college named after the megastars daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Fast Track) Shiv Chand directed the Mohamadpur Khala police to look into the complaint filed by Daulatpur village head Raj Kumari,and submit a report on June 10. On behalf of Raj Kumari,her son Avnindra Singh had last week moved the court for filing a case against Bachchan and five others,alleging that the actor had cheated people by announcing setting up of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Mahavidyala Degree College,whereas no work has started even after the announcement made two years back.
