Boys Weekend

Four famous chefs from four different countries - Spanish chef Miguel Mastre,Frenchman Manu Fiedel,Australian Adrian...

Perfect mix

Saturday 1 pm,Starting August 20,BBC Entertainment

Four famous chefs from four different countries 8211; Spanish chef Miguel Mastre,Frenchman Manu Fiedel,Australian Adrian Richardson and English restaurateur and judge from Masterchef Australia Gary Mehigan, get together every weekend to have some adventure, fun and some lip smacking food. From cooking fanciful exotic dishes like chilli trout ceviche or baked muesli with yoghurt to having fun on the beach and having a white water rafting trip on the Mitta River, they do it all.

While there are a plentiful cookery shows on TV,Boys Weekend is refreshing. The show opens with the four cooks uniting at Port Douglas,Queensland. They land up at a resort surrounded by lush green mountains, coconut tress and a beach. While the rest have fun in the pool, chef Adrian takes to cooking as he gets ready to rustle up some Alaskan beans. He picks up a few authentic ingredients to make the dish perfect but at some places he uses substitutes, making it easy for the viewers who may find it difficult to shop for authentic ingredients in their local shop. While one cooks, the others help to clean up and serve. After having a filling meal, the guys hit out for an adventure as they book a yacht and sail away in deep sea. The guys have a perfect getaway as they compete with each other to peel and cut the prawns to perfection by sitting on the deck of the boat. The one who looses has to cook them as a penalty while others enjoy the sea side sailing. In this case Miguel Mastre hops on to the kitchen and cooks an original Spanish dessert, the recipe of which has been followed from generation to generation. In the evening they all return to the resort. At night, chef Manu Fiedel accompanied by his chef friends sneaks open the bar and mixes up a Jamaican Coffee cocktail. He shows how to form a layer of cream on the coffee by using a spoon.

So far so good. However, since it is not a regular cookery show, one needs to watch it carefully to note down the recipes as they start cooking without notice.

Verdict:

The shows idea to amalgamate cookery and adventure works bang on.
