The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday stayed the withdrawal of cases against persons accused of terrorist activities.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, whose government had begun to act on his partys election promise to withdraw cases against innocent youths booked on terror charges, said the UP government would honour the court order, but it remained committed to withdrawing cases against innocent people.
The government has so far filed two applications for withdrawal of cases, but the courts have not allowed either.
A bench of Justices Rajiv Sharma and Mahendra Dayal passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by advocate Ranjana Agnihotri and five others challenging the governments move. Counsel for petitioners H S Jain said the court had referred the matter to a larger bench.
