BJP seeks SIT probe into TN leader killing

Ramesh was hacked by unidentified assailants near his home in Salem Friday night

The BJP Saturday demanded that the Tamil Nadu government set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the killing of its state unit general secretary V Ramesh.

Ramesh was hacked by unidentified assailants near his home in Salem Friday night. His body had 17 stab injuries,doctors said.

Terming the murder as a political attack by “Jihadi terrorists”,BJP in-charge of Tamil Nadu Murlidhar Rao said it was the third attack on its leaders in the state. The state BJP has called a statewide bandh on July 22.

In Delhi,BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said,“This dangerous drift towards political attacks and killings should be stopped instantly. The Tamil Nadu government should set up a high level Special Investigation Team to thoroughly investigate each one these attacks.”

“BJP leaders are being attacked in a planned manner,” Sitharaman said,pointing that Ramesh’s killing was preceded by the killing of Dr Arvind Reddy,state secretary,BJP medical cell,Murugan,a BJP activist and former councilor of Paramakudi and Pugazhendhi and BJP’s Nagapattinam district president in the last one year.
