A day after the Centre approved a Rs 45-crore tax waiver to ICC for the World Cup,there was unease in the ruling Congress even as the BJP questioned the decision.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said even though there were pros and cons of the decision,it had been taken by the Cabinet collectively. After a decision is taken,it would not be proper to comment on it. There is no question of going back or dissecting it once a decision is taken, he said. Several ministers had objected to the tax waiver on the ground that the ICC was already a cash-rich body.
Opposition BJP raised the issue of conflict of interest,saying ICC chief Sharad Pawar was part of the Cabinet that took the decision. It would have been appropriate had Sharad Pawar not been part of the decision making process, said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad. ICC and BCCI have so much of wealth. The government should explain what was the reason that prompted it to give the tax waiver.
The Congress Friday sought to reflect the countrys mood on the eve of the final invoking sub-continental pride and saying Chak De India.
Time has come when Team India and Rashtra India stand together to express unity of India, Singhvi said. Whoever wins,the sub-continent wins. Sports strengthens the bond of friendship8230;
