The BJP and Indian Union Muslim League,a Congress ally, have joined hands to rule Meencha village panchayat in the communally-sensitive Kasargode district of Kerala.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front lost the panchayat when an IUML member moved a no-confidence motion against the president belonging to his own party. The BJP,which has four members in the 14-member body, supported the motion, while two CPM members abstained from voting after taking part in the discussion.
The IUML rebel, who moved the motion, was later elected president of the panchayat, while the BJP got the slot of the vice-president. The governing body, which has three IUML members, has nearly another year to complete its five-year term.
