Birthday bash

POST MORTIS
CONGRESS MPs from UP as also those who contested the recent Assembly elections were left disappointed as their two-day meeting with the partys top brass, convened by Rahul Gandhi on March 29-30 to do a post-mortem of the partys dismal show, was cancelled without being given any specific reason. Rahul was said to have flown out of the country early this week, which could have led to the cancellation. He had also gone abroad shortly after election results were out.
MEDICAL LEAVE
HAVING come to Delhi to deliver the 13th D P Kohli lecture that is organised by the CBI,Interpol secretary general Ronald K Noble found himself undergoing a medical checkup at a prominent hospital on Thursday. Noble was shaken by an unnerving flight that was hit by lightning in the sky. After landing,he said he was not in the right frame of mind and was advised rest. He was later taken to hospital where he was put through several tests before he came and delivered the lecture.
Close on heels
EVERY move that Army Chief Gen V K Singh is making these days is being watched carefully,it seems. His planned interaction with ex-servicemen in Gurgaon on Saturday apparently got the intelligence agencies so worried that they asked the organisers to change the venue. The function was to happen at Leisure Valley in Gurgaon but has now been shifted to a stadium nearby. No one is telling what prompted the change of venue. The organisers have also been asked to furnish details of the programme.
WAIT AND WATCH
WHILE the UGC Chairmans office is being spruced up in a hurry this weekend as a new Chairman is expected to take over on Monday,it is still uncertain as to who will occupy that office. The HRD Ministry is learnt to have chosen Prof Pankaj Chandra,Director IIM Bangalore, for the job,but intense lobbying is said to be still on to push the name of the other shortlisted candidate,Prof Syed Hasnain, former vice-chancellor of Hyderabad University. The Appointment Committee of Cabinet sits over the appointment as the wait and watch game plays out at UGC.
