The girls,residents of Dumka in Jharkhand,were reportedly returning from a relatives place in Burdwan. They had disembarked at Rampurhat a little after midnight,waiting for the dawn to break,to catch a bus to Dumka.

According to them,three persons approached them around 2 am,enquiring about where they would go. Police sources said on learning that they were waiting for a bus to Jharkhand,they told the girls that the bus was there and they could help them secure their seats. The girls trusted them and followed them. They took the girls to a deserted corner at the end of the platform and allegedly raped them. Though the two did not have any document as age proof,prima facie it looks like they are around 16 years of age or so, said Additional SP Debosmita Das. She said the girls had been sent to a local hospital for a medical examination.

Later,it was learnt that police had arrested one person in this connection. The girls had filed a complaint against two persons. We have arrested one person, said a senior officer who refused to divulge further details. Police sources,however,said arrested the person was a van driver,Matin SK ,who operated from Rampurhat station.
