Armyman kills four colleagues

The Havaldar,identified as Abhay Kumar,was arrested after he was overpowered by other personnel

An Army Havaldar opened indiscriminate fire at a camp of the 42 Rashtriya Rifles at Panjpora village in South Kashmirs Anantnag district Thursday,killing four of his colleagues,including a Junior Commissioned Officer. The Army has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident the first case of fratricide in the last two years.

The Havaldar,identified as Abhay Kumar,was arrested after he was overpowered by other personnel.

Defence spokesman Lt Col J S Brar termed the killing an unfortunate incident. An Armyman,Havaldar Abhay Kumar,for unexplained reasons,fired on his own colleagues resulting in the death of one Junior Commissioned Officer and three other personnel, he said. Brar said the incident was the first in the last two years.
