Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, who has been in AIIMS for a month for complications following a kidney transplant, was on Tuesday shifted for a couple of hours to the High Dependency Unit (HDU),after doctors feared a deterioration in his condition. He was later shifted back to his room in the VIP ward and was reported to be stable.
Singh was rushed to AIIMS from Tihar jail on September 12,after he complained of pain in his kidneys. According to a senior doctor at the institute,Singhs creatinine levels went slightly up,and he was very listless. It was not very serious, but we just wanted to be prepared. Singh was taken to the HDU,a floor above the MP ward for a couple of hours. However he was not put on ventilator or any life support mechanism. When he was stable for two hours,we brought him back to his room. He is doing absolutely fine now.
AIIMS spokesperson Dr Y K Gupta, however, could not confirm his shifting to the HDU. He is stable and in his room. There is no information about him being given any critical care, he said.
After his bail application was rejected by a lower court in the cash-for-votes,Singh has moved the High Court for bail on health grounds. The plea is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday.
