Air India gets a joint managing director

The civil aviation ministry has cleared the appointment of a senior ministry official as the Joint Managing Director of the ailing national carrier

The civil aviation ministry has cleared the appointment of a senior ministry official as the Joint Managing Director of the ailing national carrier,reviving the post after nearly four years.

The order to appoint Syed Nasir Ali,a director in the ministry,as JMD with immediate effect was cleared by the ministry on Wednesday,said sources.

The post would be an additional charge to Ali’s current responsibilities. “After the approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet,the appointment is likely to be regularised,” said sources.

Ali,1990-batch IRS officer,handles Air India-related matters in the ministry,and was recently appointed as an OSD to the CMD tasked with implementation of the Dharmadhikari committee report on pay parity.

AI revenues up 21% in April-June quarter
Mumbai:
Despite the two-month-long strike by a section of its pilots,the state-owned Air India saw its revenues rise 21 per cent in the April-June quarter.
