Obama not visiting Pak this year
US President Barack Obama does not have a visit to Pakistan scheduled this year,his National Security Adviser Tom Donilon said,as the diplomatic fallout from the killing of Osama bin Laden intensified. Theres not a visit on his schedule at this point,right,to go to Pakistan, Donilon said. But there wasnt,at this point in terms of scheduling before the event of last Sunday, he said.
Why would we shelter Osama,asks Malik
Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik said it made no sense for his government to harbour Osama bin Laden who was linked to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. It makes no sense. How can we do that to a person we believe is involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Malik said in an interview with Arab channel Al Arabiya. Malik claimed he had received information on the bin Laden operation,15 minutes after it had begun.
Bin Ladens Yemeni widow to be sent home
Osama bin Ladens detained relatives,including his 29-year-old Yemeni widow,will be repatriated back to their home countries after their initial interrogations are completed,a Pakistani diplomat has said. Bin Ladens Yemeni widow Amal Ahmed Abdul Fattah was with her husband in a bedroom when US special forces stormed the house. She was shot in the leg and is in a hospital in Pakistan.
Allies to stay the course in Afghanistan
Osama bin Laden may be dead but NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that western powers will stay the course in Afghanistan amid growing calls for the decade-old war to end. International terrorism still poses a threat toward our countries, Rasmussen told Fox News yesterday. But Rasmussen said he was optimistic US and NATO forces will abide by a timetable to transition security to Afghan responsibility this year,with an aim to complete that process in 2014. About 150,000 foreign troops100,000 of them US forcesare deployed in Afghanistan in a campaign against the Taliban.
