Though several senior BJP leaders, including national president Nitin Gadkari who himself is under scanner over corruption charges have taken up graft in the Congress-led UPA government as the main subject of their speeches in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, veteran leader L K Advani, fresh from a visit to the United Nations,on Sunday chose to talk about strengthening the democratic system of the country.
Addressing a rally in Amb in Una district,Advani briefly spoke about corruption in his 40-minute speech.
Advani, during his speech, focussed mainly on adopting compulsory voting, having discussions among candidates, who are contesting for the seniormost posts and conducting parliamentary and assembly elections of all states in the same year.
Impressed by the electoral process in the US,Advani said: If the BJP government comes to power in the Lok Sabha elections,it will work towards having compulsory voting and conducting Lok Sabha and state elections in the same year. People must go to the polling booth on the day of the election, whether they vote or not.
