Eight prisoners escaped from the Sonepat district jail in Haryana on Wednesday despite the area being a high security zone. The prisoners, who were under custody for various crimes including murder, robbery and decoity, cut the grills of their barracks and escaped at around 4 am,the police said.
The incident came to light when the staff on duty took attendance of the prisoners on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident,Inspector General Alok Mittal said,The inmates had planned the escape and it is evident that they were in touch with their associates outside. We do not even rule out the possibility of them having used mobile phones to hatch the plan.
Soon after the incident came to light,a team of officials from the FSL Forensic Science Laboratory also reached the spot and recovered a 40-foot rope,a pair of shoes and around 10 blades inside the cell.
The inmates used iron blades to cut the grills. Grills of two barracks 3A and 3B were cut over a period of a few days and they had applied mustard oil on the blades to suppress the voice of the blade cutting the grill, sources said.
