Five militants were killed in Kupwara,North Kashmirs frontier district,after soldiers launched a massive combing and search operation on a large swathe of the forest area close to the LoC in the Hafrada jungles.
Soldiers from two battalions of the Army along with some contingents of Polices Special Operation Group were involved in the operation.
Officials said that the operation began at Shamsbari,Badnumbal,Hagnikoot,Baliyan Behak,Waderballa and Rajwar villages on Monday.
Officials said the soldiers recovered arms and ammunition from a militant hideout on Tuesday and that the next day Army patrols established contact with a group of militants deep inside Hafrada forests.
So far five militants have been killed in this operation and efforts are being made to identify the slain militants, defence spokesman told The Indian Express.
