4 hurt in firing,Valley again under curfew

At least four persons,including a teeanaged girl,were wounded when the Army fired at protesters in south Kashmir's Shopian district

At least four persons,including a teeanaged girl,were wounded when the Army fired at protesters in south Kashmir8217;s Shopian district on Sunday.

Early in the morning,the Army cordoned off Nagbal village in Shopian and ordered residents to assemble in a field. The villagers refused and started raising pro-freedom slogans. The Army opened fired,wounding four,two of them Salima Yousuf,18,and Aamir Dar,19 critically.

Meanwhile,after a day8217;s breather,most parts of Kashmir,including Srinagar,were again put under curfew and strict restrictions to thwart a proposed separatist march to Baramulla. Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for the march to pay tribute to the young men and women killed in police and CRPF firing in Pattan and Tangmarg. The authorities had sealed all roads in and out of Baramulla.

Despite curfew,protests broke out at several places in Srinagar. Police claimed the curfew was relaxed in Srinagar and Handwara in the afternoon.

The state government had lifted curfew on Saturday after Geelani suspended his protest calendar for a day.
