At least 31 people have died and over 51 have been hospitalised over the last two days after they consumed spurious liquor in Cuttack and Khurdha districts in one of the worst hooch tragedies in Orissa

At least 31 people have died and over 51 have been hospitalised over the last two days after they consumed spurious liquor in Cuttack and Khurdha districts in one of the worst hooch tragedies in Orissa.

The owner of one of the the liquor outlets,Baidhar Bhoi,is among those dead. Thrice earlier,Bhoi was arrested for illegal sale of country liquor.

The liquor was reportedly mixed with a cough syrup procured from a pharma company located at Rasulgarh area.

Eight persons,including the owner of the pharmaceutical company that manufactured the medicine,have been arrested so far.

Sources in the LJP (RV) said the names of the remaining 15 candidates would also be announced very soon.

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) announced its first list of 14 candidates for the Bihar assembly polls, with its state unit chief Raju Tiwary and leader Hulas Pandey among the nominees. As per the seat-sharing arrangement, LJP (RV) will contest 29 seats, while BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each. The remaining 15 candidates will be announced soon.
