2G: Swamy seeks action against Raja

Janata Party leader Subramanium Swamy on Friday sought the Supreme Courts permission to appeal against a Delhi High Court order

Janata Party leader Subramanium Swamy on Friday sought the Supreme Courts permission to appeal against a Delhi High Court order, dismissing his plea requesting sanction to prosecute Union Minister of Communications and IT A Raja in the 2G Spectrum scam.

Swamys petition comes after the SC on September 13 issued notices to Raja and the CBI on a petition by NGO Peoples Union for Civil Liberties, alleging the minister had connived with private telecom operators and given away scarce national resources in the form of 2G spectrum at throwaway prices, causing the nation a loss of Rs 70,000 crore.

The CBI on Friday filed its response in a sealed cover. The court had on September 13 asked the agency why it registered an FIR against unknown persons though it had enough information on identities of the suspects.

Swamy blamed PM Manmohan Singh for his failure to grant sanction to prosecute Raja due to which the litigation in HC lapsed. The HC had on August 18 dismissed Swamys petition for sanction to prosecute Raja on the grounds that a CBI probe was in progress.

8230; CVC,CAG,CBI have all found there is a prima facie case of corruption, but the PM has refused to decide the application seeking sanction on the plea that the case is under investigation, Swamy alleged.
