2 militants,2 civilians killed in Arunachal encounter

Two AK-47 rifles,one M16 rifle and one sniper rifle was recovered from the militants.

Four persons,including two militants,were killed and a woman injured in a gunbattle between security forces and heavily armed NSCNIM cadres in Hollam village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh early Thursday.

Troops of the Assam Rifles launched an operation in the village and cordoned off a house where the militants were holed up. The militants began firing at them on being asked to lay down arms and surrender,Tirap SP Vikramjit Singh said from Khonsa.

The militants opened fire,prompting the Assam Rifles to retaliate. While two militants were killed on the spot,two civilians succumbed to injuries when they were being evacuated to a safer place from an adjoining house, SP Singh said,adding that the two slain NSCNIM militants were identified as self-styled sergeant major Wang Shung Mi and corporal Sumong Tikhil,from Nagaland. A third militant was captured alive,but three managed to flee.
