And, not used to foreign media thronging their corridors, the CPIM had to go into an overdrive to live up to its image. First, it hurriedly moved the statue from its dusty perch in the backyard to the front of the AKG Bhawan, its headquarters. Then perhaps, for the first time ever, it put up a pandal for journalists outside the party office. However, the instructions were clear: nothing more than water was to be served to the hacks. Was that too a part of the CPIM8217;s image-conscious effort to ring in some changes?
