Fancied Sher-e-Jalandhar fell to in-form Maratha Warriors in the third Tier I game of the 2nd Premier Hockey League on Saturday. Playing in front of boisterous supporters, the star-studded Sher-e-Jalandhar went down 0-2 to Warriors at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium.

It was Warriors second consecutive victory. The famed Sher-e-Jalandhar with players like captain Gagan Ajit Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Baljit Singh Dhillon, Baljit Singh Saini, Kanwalpreet Singh, Harpal Singh, Pakistan captain Mohammad Saqlain and Daljit Singh Dhillon failed to live up to the expectations of diehard hockey fans.

Warriors, on the other hand, showed better coordination to put their opponents under pressure. Warriors never lost a chance to go on the counter-attacks as mercurial Dhanra Pillay, Shivender Singh and Pak import Adnan Zakir moving in tandem. Nippy midfielder Zakir struck in the 22nd minute to open the account for Warriors. And in the last quarter Shivender added to the tally.

RED CARD FOR SAQLAIN: Pakistan captain Mohammad Saqlain was shown the red card in the 65th minute for showing dissent to umpire Satinder Sharma. Saqlain, who was served a yellow card for rough play by Satinder, expressed his anger and threw his stick out in disgust, and was promptly shown the red card.

DAZZLERS DAZZLE: Delhi Rangers shook off the disappointment of their earlier defeat to Orissa Steelers to rout Imphal Rangers 5-1 in the Tier II match. Raju (39th, 62nd, 66th min), Ravinder (41st min) and Sanjeev Kumar (4th min) were on target for the Delhi team. The only goal for Imphal Rangers was scored by former Indian international T. Brojen Singh in the 54th minute of the match.
