SURAT, Aug 13: South Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Ashwin Kapadia, whose tenure was dogged by a series of controversies involving his degrees and his daughter’s dissertation, was suspended by the State Government on Wednesday.
Kapadia sent his resignation letter to the government immediately after receiving the order.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Rohit Shelat was approved to the post by the State governor, who is also SGU chancellor, as per an official communique.
The order stated that his degrees from the Sri Lankan University were questionable. Kapadia has also been accused of using his office to exonerate his daughter Krishna Kapadia — who was found to have plagiarised her dissertation from a former student — not convening regular meetings of the Syndicate, and misusing his powers.
