
CHANDIGARH, SEPT 7: With the cost of most of the essentials coming down after a spell of inflated prices, it is time for the common man on the street to heave a sigh of relief. Well, almost.
Prices of tomatoes, which had skyrocketed to Rs 30 per kg last week due to the rains, have steadily come down to the normal of Rs 8 per kg in the Sector 26 market and anything between Rs 12 per kg to Rs 16 per kg in other sectors.
Potatoes and onions remained quite stable at Rs 10 per kg each 8211; not much change from their previous prices. The rates of new crop of garlic have also decreased from Rs 40 per kg to Rs 25 per kg in the Sector 26 market, while garlic is also available for the same price.
Green chillies are at their lowest best, being available for Rs 10 per kg. However, accessories8217; like Coriander and Mint are hard to get by and even if available, are priced at sky high rates. However, few vegetables still continue to be expensive. These include Capsicum, the price of which has shot up to Rs 24 per kg in the Sector 26 market. Beans are available for Rs 20 per kg while gourd is cheapest at Rs 5 per kg.
