The 12-year-old daughter of slain forest brigand Veerappan, V. Prabha, is back in school after attending the last rites of her father.
Accompanied by a relative and an advocate, Prabha, a Class VII student at St Joseph’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Koothapakkam, returned to the school this afternoon.
Speaking to reporters, Prabha said, ‘‘I want to take the civil service examination and become a collector.’’ She also said, ‘‘I will pursue my studies in this school.’’
Principal of the school, Sister Epiphany, who last week denied media reports that the school management had decided to remove Prabha from the school, said today: ‘‘The management is happy to receive the girl.’’
Chennai-based advocate V. Purushotaman, who accompanied the girl along with Anbumani, son-in-law of Veerappan’s elder brother Mathaiyan, said: ‘‘Prabha will be in the school at least till this academic year ends.’’ Said Purushotaman, whose earlier visit to the school had kicked up much dust: ‘‘A school staff asked me to hand over a letter requesting the management to issue a transfer certificate to Prabha to enable her to continue her studies in some other school’’. He claimed, ‘‘I rejected it and refused to deliver the letter.’’ He went on, ‘‘Later, the principal informed me over the phone that Prabha can return to the school any time.’’
