MSU students to go on hunger strike
In a retaliatory measure student union members of the M S University supporting the varsity’s decision to bar students, who have secured ATKT, from annual examinations, have also decided to go on a hunger strike from Thursday. The decision was taken to ensure that the university vice- chancellor does not relent to the demands of another students’ lobby, which is already on a hunger strike protesting the varsity’s move.

SETU function
SETU, a city-based social organisation, has organised a unique programme on `Your Contribution in Solving Problems of the City’ on Sunday at Milan Kunj, Alkapuri at 5.30 p.m. Invitations have been sent out to a large number of people, including leading citizens, to send their suggestions on storm water disposal, cleanliness of roads and drainage, environment, traffic, encroachment and electricity. Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, District Collector A J Mukim and Police Commissioner Kuldeep Sharma are expected to be present.

Awareness drive
Members of Friends’ Society, Fatehgunj will undertake a one-day drive on Thursday to spread awareness about thalassaemia disease. The drive, which will start at 10 am from the Kala Ghoda area, will include distribution of educative handbills, pamphlets and stickers among the masses. Special awareness literature would also be distributed at leading shops and business outlets during the drive, a society member said.

The M/S Elys Injects Private Limited (two units), Kalol have been declared defaulters of Employees Provident Fund Organisation, Vadodara for their dues to the tune of about Rs 10 lakh on the account of PF. An official release said that the management did not pay the dues despite repeated notices, therefore these had been declared “chronic defaulters” and its immovable assets, including factory land, attached. The PF Commissionerate has warned parties concerned not to enter into any transaction with the company.

Internet services
President of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce Anuj Patel in a fax message to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Sushma Swaraj has reiterated the demand for provision of Internet services to Vadodara city. Patel has urged the minister to consider the importance of the city as an industrial centre.
