Heavy spell of rains in city
Vadodara experienced a heavy shower of unexpected rains on Wednesday, dampening the high spirits in the last hours of the festival of nine nights. However, it brought pleasant relief to the city, which had been going through a particularly bad patch of sweltering heat and high humidity after the last spell of rains.

Exhibition
The State branch of the World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF) will hold a three-day exhibition on wildlife here at Swami Vivekanand Art Gallery, Badamdi Baug from October 3 as a part of its wildlife week. A WWF press note said that principal chief conservator of forest A P Mishra would inaugurate the show at 10 am. Other programme being organised to mark the week include a rally, a quiz, `antakshri’ and a street play. Contest winners would be honoured by Dinesh Choksi, deputy mayor of VMC, professor S D Sabnis and Sanat A Chauvan, CCF, Gandhinagar at a special function.

Urs celebration
A 41-day celebration `Jashn-e-gharib nawaz’ will begin from Thursday to mark the 786th `urs’ festival of sufi saint of Ajmer HAzrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti here under the banner of Khankah-e-ahle Sunnat at Hazrat Peer Moinuddin Kadri Ali Jumma Masjid, a press note said.

Pension directive
Pre-1996 retired commissioned officers and their family members receiving pension may obtain information regarding changes in their pension, following recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission, from the District Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Office, C Bloc, Fourth Floor, Narmada Bhawan, Jail Road, Vadodara.

Queries invited
R D Deo, secretary, Vadodara region of the Insurance Pensioners’ Association has invited queries and complaints from insurance pensioners, who retired before January 1, 1986. Office-bearers
The Central Bank Officers’ Association elected its office-bearers at a recent function, chaired by R C Agrawal, general secretary of the association’s national body. While S K Shah was elected president, R J Purohit took over as secretary, J N Makwana as treasurer, B R Thakkar, R B Parikh, B M Umranwala, K P Thakar, M L Jain and M P Raj as joint secretaries respectively.

Ambulance
The Lions Club of J P Road has started an ambulance centre at Ranoli village on the national highway. The centre was dedicated to public at a special function held recently. According to a club statement, local member of legislative assembly Dilubhai Chudasama was the special guest at the function.
