Congress rally to protest rising prices
City Congress workers will take out a rally on Monday to protest against the rising prices of oil and essential commodities and 8220;the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.8221; The rally will begin from Polo Club at 3 pm and conclude at the Collectorate where a memorandum would be submitted to the district collector. Party president Ashwin Shah said in a statement that the marchers would also carry banners and placards, highlighting the BJP government8217;s failure to improve the situation.

Stir withdrawn
The proposed indefinite strike by group B and C officers of the department of Central Excise and Customs with effect from July 21 has been withdrawn following an assurance by Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha to look into their grievances, according to a release issued by the All-India Federation of Central Excise Executive Officers.

Special clinic
The SSG Hospital will start a special ward for patients with breast-related disease in Out Patient Department No 4, from August 4. To be headed by Jayshree P Mehta, a professor of surgery in the Baroda Medical College, the clinic will be open to public on Mondays and Thursdays from 10.30 am to noon.

Short courses
The Centre for Continuing Adult Education of the M S University will start various short-term courses from Monday at 6 p.m. The courses include basic astrology, vastushastra, English improvement, computer and travel and tourism. Interested applicants should contact the centre between 11 am and 4 p m on working days.

BoB scheme
The Bank of Baroda will celebrate its foundation day on Monday by launching a unique BoB moneyback deposit scheme, positioned between a recurring deposit and a flexible deposit. The scheme is ideally suited for salaried persons, self-employed professionals, housewives, trusts and business entities with annual financial commitments like education fees, insurance premium etc. At the end of 12 months, one can withdraw upto 10 times of the installment amount without losing any interest on it. The scheme is for a 36-month period, with a minimum deposit of Rs 500 per month and in multiples of Rs 100, thereafter. There is no upper limit. Rate of interest will be 9 per cent per annum.

Satsangh exam
As many as 1,341 students appeared for the Satsangh Education examination held by the Bochasanvasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha of the Swaminaryan sect on Sunday. A press statement said these included 286 children, 488 men and 565 women. As many as 3125 took examination in 47 examination centres in the Vadodara district, which included 23 tribal centres.

NCPL donation
Employees of the M/s Narmada Chematur Petrochemicals Limited NCPL have donated Rs 41,047 towards the Chief Minister8217;s Relief Fund for the cyclone-affected people of the state. A cheque bearing the amount was recently presented by Director In-charge of the company C Raghava Rao to Bharuch District Collector S Aparna on behalf on NCPL.
