V K Suri, Vice-Chancellor of the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, on Tuesday submitted his resignation to Governor T V Rajeswar. Accepting the resignation, the Governor has asked the Registrar to take charge for now. Suri hit the headline when he denied permission to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to hold a meeting in the university auditorium on October 24. The V-C cited security reasons for cancelling permission for the meeting. However, the Governor, who was supposed to attend the convocation of the university the same day, cancelled his programme. The Governor had sought an explanation from the V-C on why he cancelled the MP’s programme. The V-C replied that no formal permission was granted for Rahul’s meeting by the university. The Raj Bhawan had said that the V-C acted under pressure from the Uttar Pradesh Government, a charge denied by the BSP Government.
