NEW DELHI, Jan 8: The Capital has witnessed a sudden spurt in the number of robberies and murders during the past 24 hours.

Since most of the incidents have been reported from East Delhi, the police feel that Uttar Pradesh based criminals are behind the incidents.

The number of isolated crimes have increased as well, with personal rivalry being cited as the motive in most cases. In Gandhinagar, a 60-year-old shopkeeper, Ramesh Chand, was found dead at his dhaba this morning. The incident was reported after his son opened the door of the dhaba around 6 a.m.

Ramesh had died after someone struck his head with a blunt object. The cash box was reportedly missing. The police suspect that one of his employees is behind the incident. The youth who was employed only a few days ago is absconding.

Yesterday, a three-year-old girl, Reshma, was beaten to death by her father Riazuddin at Nehru Vihar in the Gokulpuri area. According to the police, the girl was suffering from diarrhoea and had loose motions during her sleep.

This enraged her father who picked her up and thrashed her in the morning. The girl collapsed and died. The police have arrested Riazuddin and registered a case of murder.

An unidentified 45-year-old man was found murdered on the Gurgaon road near the 35 Infantry brigade on Tuesday evening. According to the police, there were stab injuries all over the head and body. A case of murder has been registered at the Delhi Cantonment police station.
