Members of the Lok Sabha today urged the Government to come up with a comprehensive strategy to strengthen internal security in order to curb terrorism, Naxalism and cross-border infiltration in the country.

Taking the Government to task on its handling of sensitive issues, BJP’s V.K. Malhotra said, ‘‘The UPA Government’s policies include appeasement of their vote-banks, even if they have a jehadi mindset. And it is not good at all…In the East, the Muslim population is increasing in districts that border Bangladesh due to unhindered infiltration. When we have a large number of people living below poverty line in our own country, we cannot afford such infiltration.’’

He criticised the Home Minister for calling terrorists in J-K as ‘‘brothers’’ and referring to Naxalites as his ‘‘children’’. Coming to the Government’s defence, Congress MP Nikhil Kumar said: ‘‘The BJP says the demographic profile has changed in Assam and West Bengal because of Bangladeshi infiltration. Why didn’t the BJP-led NDA Government do something about it? Why was the border not fenced?’’

CPM MP Mohammed Salim stressed there was need to look at the issues in J-K or North-East without communal or political interests.

BJP for RJD dismissal

The BJP on Monday demanded the dismissal of the RJD-led government in Bihar and imposition of President’s Rule, citing the cellphone records of a jailed MP as yet another proof of the ‘‘complete lawlessness’’ in the state. Raising the issue, BJP deputy leader V.K. Malhotra said during the recent raids on Bihar jails, a cell phone seized from an inmate showed he had made ‘‘670 calls’’ to various ministers, dons, and VIPs from jail. He was referring to RJD MP Pappu Yadav though he did not take names. Malhotra said the Patna HC had repeatedly said there was no law and order in Bihar. The Centre must dismiss the government and impose President’s Rule.
