BJP general secretary Uma Bharti, at the centre of a fresh storm following her allegations against colleague Pramod Mahajan, met party president L.K. Advani on Saturday. The two were understood to have discussed the issue. The meeting came after Advani said at Hardwar that he will ask her what she had said about Mahajan. Meanwhile, party general secretary Shivraj Singh Chauhan said the maximum credit for the party’s electoral success in MP should go to her but added it could not be discounted that lakhs of workers worked hard.
Rape case against Haryana magistrate
• PANIPAT: A case of rape has been registered against City Magistrate Jeet Singh Mehra by police here on the orders of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate after a girl alleged that Mehra had raped her after a fraudulent marriage for six months. Mehra is reportedly absconding after the registration of the case.
NCP’s Kupekar elected Maharashtra Speaker
• MUMBAI: ncp leader Babasaheb Kupekar was elected unopposed as the Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly here on Saturday. An announcement to this effect was made by pro-tem Speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh in the Lower House.
