Two history-sheeters, wanted in several cases of murder, kidnapping, theft and arson, were gunned down by the police at their hideout in Chennai on Friday.
According to police, the rowdies attacked them with weapons, injuring at least two personnel and they had to open fire in retaliation to save themselves. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem while the policemen are receiving treatment for injuries at a government hospital in Chennai.
‘Bomb’ L Jayakumar (37) and his associate ‘Sudalai’ Muthu alias Kavi, both hailing from Tuticorin, were hiding in a house at Ayanavaram inside the city limits. While the former was a notorious rowdy involved in several cases including the murder of one Pichaiya in the Andamans in 2006, the criminal history of latter is not clear.
