Two boys drown in Surat

SURAT, JUNE 12: Two boys drowned in a flooded pond in the district town of Navsari in South Gujarat on Sunday, police said here today. The two lived in the slums near the site of the mishap. The civic authorities had recently begun work on deepening the pond and no fence had been erected around it, police said.

In yet another incident, two lovers allegedly committed sicide by jumping into river Tapti near a temple on the outskirts of Jahangirpura under Rander police station here today.

Their bodies were fished out from the river later and sent to the New Civil Hospital for post mortem, police said.

The lovers took the extreme step apparently because they had no hope of marrying in the near future, police said.
