Four-year-old, Akash, a victim of food poisoning who was admitted to Bhagwati Hospital on Friday.

MUMBAI, May 9: Two persons have been arrested after more than 300 people, including 68 children, took ill when they took a milk-based drink at a wedding function at Malvani, Malad, on Thursday afternoon.

Most of them returned home after treatment and only seven are still at the Bhagwati and the Cooper hospitals.

A Malvani police officer said the Shere family of a Koli community was celebrating the weddings of four brothers simultaneously and had prepared a cold milk-based drink with mava bought from a local dairy and a sweetmeat shop. The victims started vomiting soon after drinking it.

Some were rushed to the Bhagwati hospital, the nearest, at Borivli, while others were removed to the Cooper hospital. A few were admitted to some private hospitals in Malad (West).

Medical superintendent of the Bhagwati hospital Y N More told Express Newsline that 110 patients were admitted of whom only one, who had not stopped vomiting, was still to be discharged.

Yeshwant Pujari, the owner of the dairy, and Jagmohan Gupta, the owner of the sweetmeat shop, were arrested.
