One of the most famous fusion foods in the world, the California Roll is combination sushi at its best. This sushi roll is made inside out the sticky rice is on the outside and has a filling of cucumber, crab and avocado. Imitation crab sticks are also used sometimes in place of crab. The rice is covered with sesame seeds.
A quick history: The California Roll was first created in Los Angeles when Japanese chefs began to flock to the USA in search of fortune. Soon chefs began to experiment with substitute foods8212;this was when tuna was replaced with avocado. A chef made it an inside-out roll when he realised that Americans did not prefer the nori wrapped rolls. This type of roll is also called Uramaki.
