A Congress delegation from Tripura, led by state PCC president Samir Ranjan Burman, called on the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday demanding free and fair polls in the state.

Accusing the Left Front Government in the state of resorting to rigging for remaining in power, the delegation in its memorandum asked the Commission for taking necessary steps to prevent any electoral malpractice. “We have demanded all necessary steps. The Congress is sure to sweep the polls if free and fair elections are held and voters are not deprived of their rights,” said Burman.

Legislator Sudip Roy said the delegation had apprised the EC of various electoral malpractices being resorted to by the Left Front. “We have asked the EC to ensure free and fair elections this time. The Commission has assured us that the polls in Tripura would be exemplary,” said Roy.
