All travel agents across the country will down shutters to observe a day’s strike on Friday.
Approximately 2,200 Indian Association of Travel Agents (IATA) agents, supported by over 2,00,000 non-IATA agents across the country generate close to 85 per cent of ticket sales for airlines in India. Almost all of them have suspended sales of Air-India tickets from April 1. From April 9, the travel agents will also suspend sales of Lufthansa tickets. The immediate provocation is A-I’s decision to further reduce agency commissions from the current 7 per cent to 5 per cent fromMay 1.
