CHANDIGARH, SEPT 14: Confusion prevailed in the office of UT8217;s District Education Officer DEO today as the 28 Class XII Science students of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, who were transferred to Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, some days back, raised grievance with the DEO regarding the conduction of their mid-term examinations. The students reportedly complained against being disallowed to take examinations in the Sector 18 school.
Brahmjit Kalia, DEO, when contacted, said: quot;Only 28 students were enrolled in GSSS-8 in Class XI in the science stream against the available 120 seats last year. Keeping in view the little preference for the school, the department decided to shift the science stream to GMSSS-18 and didn8217;t admit any students in Class XI for the present session.quot;
He said that the move meant shifting these students along with science teachers to GMSSS-18 and other schools respectively. The matter went pending with the onset of elections as the teachers could not be transferred as per the code of conduct. Finally, the course was shifted to GMSSS-18 on September 1. But when the mid-term examinations arrived, these 28 students had covered only a part of the syllabi. In view of this, the department decided to conduct the examinations of these students in their previous school.
quot;We had informed the students about this, but I learned that some students took two exams in GMSSS-18 and today they were refused to take the third exam.quot; He said the matter came to his knowledge today only and he would look into the matter tomorrow. quot;We would now be taking the rest of the examinations at GSSS-8 onlyquot;, he added.
