The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Trai issued a consultation paper on Wednesday, seeking views on the carrier access code CAC, which allows a subscriber to select his long distance carrier. If implemented, it will help reduce long distance tariffs.
According to Trai, both long distance and access service providers stand to benefit from this initiative. While long distance service providers would be able to sell their services directly to consumers, earn more revenue and expand their network to become competitive, access provider would benefit from increased competition, which would lower prices and increase the volume of long distance calls and revenue accruable to them.
