PUNE, Nov 12: The traffic wing of Pune police has launched a major drive to take action against private vehicles carrying passengers illegally. The owners of 82 private vehicles carrying passengers illegally were fined during the last three days.

Police said action was taken against 32 vehicles on November 10 while the owners of 50 vehicles were fined on Wednesday as a part of the drive.

The drive was undertaken after it was noticed that a large number of accidents were caused due to the vehicles carrying passengers illegally. It was also noticed that over a dozen passengers were being crammed into light motor vehicles like jeeps. The drive is also expected to curb the practice of carrying passengers in private vehicles illegally.

As a part of the drive, the traffic wing has deployed its personnel on the five highways passing through Pune and every major road going out of the city. These traffic policemen have been instructed to keep an eye on the vehicles plying on the roads and to take action against the vehicles carrying passengers illegally.
