CHIDAMBARAM, AUG 30: TMC President G K Moopanar has said that the time has come for nationalist forces to come to power in Tamil Nadu and next year’s assembly elections would provide a golden opportunity for them.
"The time has come for nationalist forces to form the government," he told a rally organised by the party to celebrate the birth anniversaries of K Kamaraj and Rajiv Gandhi at this temple town last night.
The people of the state had not tasted governance by nationalist forces for the past 33 years, he said in an apparent reference to the defeat of Congress in 1967 and the successive DMK and AIADMK governments.
Moopanar said TMC was in alliance with national and secular parties like the Congress, CPI and CPI-M.
TMC would not "beg" any party for ministerial berths in the state, but would make a "justified claim", he said, in an obvious reference to AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha’s remarks that her party would not share power with any party, if it was voted to power in next year’s elections.
Earlier in the day, TMC had reaffirmed its stand that partners of a pre-poll alliance should find a place in the government if the Front was voted to power.
