
CHANDIGARH, Nov 2: Tilak Raj beat Patanjali Kumar 17-21, 21-14, 21-15, to bag the title in the men8217;s singles event in the above 40 to 50 years group in the third Chandigarh state veteran table tennis championship which concluded at Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall yesterday.
In the 50 to 60 years men finals, Balbir Singh Virdi defeated Avtar Singh 21-18, 24-22 while Deva outplayed SD Bhambri 21-19, 21-12, to win the first positions in the above 60 years group. In the women8217;s above 35 category, Savita Dobhal beat Nutan 21-10, 21-17, to win the top slot.
The lucky mixed doubles title went to Balbir Singh Virdi and Vinod Kumar Sharma who beat the pair of Tilak Raj and TK Dogra 21-14, 21-8.
Football probables
The Chandigarh Football Association CFA would hold trials to select 30 probables for the under-22 national football championship zonal for M Dutta Roy Trophy, on November 5, at Government Model Senior Secondary School-23 at 3.30 p.m.
According to Rakesh Bakshi, Secretary, CFA, players born on or after January 1, 1978 are eligible for the trials.
School Games
Maharashtra will conduct National School Games group-I championships for swimming, diving and water polo at Nasik from November 26 to 30.
According to School Games Federation of India general secretary B D Gandhi the competitions will be held for under-19, under-17 and under-14 besides diving and water polo for boys under-19. All states, Union Territories and other units of the federation have been requested to send their entries to B R Himalyan, District Sports Officer, Nasik.
