The police have arrested Manish Poddar, an employee of Manohar Das Estates, for stealing two gold bars worth Rs 26 lakh.

Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) Jawed Shamim said a police team arrested Poddar from Muzaffarpur in Bihar on November 23 and has brought him to the city on a transit remand.

On October 21, Poddar had stolen the gold bars from his employer Dilip Kumar Chamaria’s bank locker in the Burrabazar branch of Indian Overseas Bank. Poddar had left the city immediately after the theft, the police said.

The sleuths, however, tracked his family down to Samastipur in Bihar and questioned his father.

“We came to know about his whereabouts from his father. We are investigating whether the other bar has been disposed of,” Shamim said, adding that Poddar has been remanded in police custody till December 2.
