Rose quartz is the macro crystalline variety of the quartz family. The colour band includes pale pinks to the rarer rosy-red hues and stands unique in inheriting colour owing to titanium impurities and iron and manganese. Available mostly in translucent form, the few transparent ones are breathtaking. Its lustre is vitreous. It is found in coarse grained rock usually granite and is sourced from India, Brazil, Japan, Germany, US and some of the best ones come from Madagascar. This semi-precious stone is photosensitive. Since it cracks and chips rather easily, it should be handled cautiously. Rose quartz is not enhanced. The darker shades are usually dyed.
